In the Read Out Drivers (ROD) of the individual ATLAS subdetectors the feed-in and the readout of the optical links will be placed. The space in this Driver is also very rare; therefore array components for the VCSEL (input) and the PIN-Diodes (output) are needed. For the RODs of the SCT and the Pixel Detector 12 way arrays are the most interesting. For the LArg ROD 4 way array components are more suitable. Some of these components were presented at the 2nd Workshop on Optical Read-out Technologies for ATLAS
On this page you will find a list of available array components which meet most of the specifications needed. There are also links to most of the vendors of these devices. Additional information on different array-component manufacturer is very welcome.
VCSEL ARRAYS
MITEL offers a 4-channel VCSEL array packaged in a miniature surface-mountable MT connector. The proton implanted GaAs-VCSEL radiate with 840 nm and the optical output Po is about 1.1 mW, measured at IF=10mA. Mark Pearce is in close contact with this manufacturer. --> 2nd Workshop.
Infineon (formerly Siemens) is supplying their PAROLI device with a 16-channel VCSEL array. This component is right now not commercially available as separate device, but if needed they could make a submount and package according to our specifications. Karl Gill from the CMS group already tested this separate array. --> 2nd Workshop. More Information on Paroli is available here.
TrueLight are also interested in supplying ATLAS with VCSEL. They produce VCSEL of infrared 780, 850, 980 nm emission for applications of fibre-optic communication and general industry and consumer purposes. Powers of < 1.0 mW and > 3.0 mW at 10 mA operation are optional and available by special order. A possible array would consist of 16 channel. -->2nd Workshop.
MODE
introduced last year a device called Gigarray, a 1x12 array, near infrared
850 nm VCSEL. This product is packaged for OEM integration into Gigabit
Ethernet, HiPPI, and SCI transceivers and systems. They are multimode devices
and are compatible with 50mm and 62.5mm
core diameter fibre. At IF=20mA the output power is
about 4.5mW. All information is taken from a preliminary data sheet (May
98).

PIN-DIODE ARRAYS
The list of the PIN-diodes is unfortunately very short and additional information is very welcome!
MITEL is also offering a 4-channel PIN-diode array packaged in a miniature surface mountable MT-connector. It is designed for parallel communication over fibre ribbon cable in applications like computer backbone and intra-office telecom. It is designed to match the VCSEL array from MITEL. --> 2nd Workshop
The PIN diodes from AME are optimised for the visible (VIS) and near infrared (NIR) spectral regions with typical response maximum between 859 and 950nm.
TrueLight has also SI-PIN diodes in their sales program, but data sheets were not available at this point.
LASER COMPONENTS is recently offering a silicon photo diode array with 16 channels.
