The three-loop static potential and applications
The potential of two heavy quarks is among the fundamental quantities
of QCD. It enters as building block a variety of observables
and thus it is desirable to know it as precisely as possible. In this
talk we describe the calculation of the three-loop corrections in
perturbative QCD. Afterwards some applications are discussed where the
static potential plays a crucial role. Among them are the threshold
production cross section of top quark pairs in electron positron
annihilation and properties of gluinonium, bound states of two gluinos.
